The CD contains 12 songs which switch across musical genres as you listen to the tracks and was as a narrative concept album. The CD starts with "The Light" which is basically a pop tune and is performed with a full band. "Glow" is next which is an acoustic ballad performed live in the studio. "General Lee" then uncovers some dusty Southern roots and paints a picture of the Civil War with a drone-sounding guitar, fiddle and mandolin giving a period feel to the tune. A reprise at the end is as if Lee is coming home to his Southern mansion finding it the national cemetery that it is. Next, is a leap into electric-voodoo-blues type-tune called "Conjure You Up" with wailing guitars and hypnotic sounds showing Hendrix-type influences. "This Time" brings you into a straight-ahead rock tune with a "Cry-Baby-Wah" lead. We turn next into a Honky-Tonk driveway for "What Was Ever Said" with its twangy telecaster-type lead. Another step takes us up near the intercoastal highway driving towards a Seattle sounding tune of "Up Above the Sunrise" which isessentially alternative/garage rock painted with word imagery.
"Hear My Baby Calling" follows with a leap off the front of the boat deap down into a Mississippi-Delta type of minimalistic haunting acoustic-blues (albeit from the banks of the Ohio River). Next on the smorgasbord is "Messin' Around" which is a low-down blues number about a cheating spouse witha Paul Revere-type signal used for meetings with her lover. "Inside of Her Soul" follows with an echo-driven guitar with a dance-like quality in a blues-rock 1970's song feel with a "tip of the hat" guitar lick to Hendrix. "Ghost of Mansion Hill" is an acoustic diddy about that Newport, KY neighborhood and all the "painted ladies" just South of the Ohio River. House on Fire ends with "Roll & Tumble" which is a minimalistic traditional blues tune done on a 1930's National steel slide guitar with additional/changed lyrics, guitar arrangement and size twelve tennis-shoe beat (a la Cheech and Chong's "Blind Melon Chitlin's" recording session...lol).
The tunes wander into different genres like the many pealing paint-layered rooms of an old Victorian house South of the Ohio River in Newport, KY where the band is based and most of the songs inspired...
